Wokha, Sep. 23 (EMN): The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) organised its second cultural-cum-literary festival at Town Hall Wokha on September 23 with Education Director & HOD, department of school education, Wonthungo Tsopoe as the special guest.
The festival was organised in collaboration with the Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) and district legal services authority Wokha.
Speaking on the occasion, Tsopoe stated that “our wealth is our children”, and urged the gathering to give right education to them. While appreciating the LSU for conducting the event, he highlighted the rich tradition and cultural practices of the Lotha Naga community, and expressed the need for the younger generation to carry it forward by upholding the philosophy, taboos and dogmas of their ancestors.
He also urged the students to focus on their duties in order to excel in life and reminded them to respect elders and contribute to the society.
Guest of honour, N Jacob Yanthan, Jt. Director department of Agriculture, told the community to uphold their tradition by valuing and acknowledging the language, hospitality, festivals and marriage practices of Naga Lotha culture.
Nino Iralu, secretary judicial, department of Justice and Law, stated that Nagas are in a transition period and that it is the duty and responsibility of the people to organise such event and educate the young generation, the leaders of tomorrow. She also briefed on legal authorities and duties as well as services in the district and state.
Ajit Kumar Verma, SDO Civil Wokha, told the people to connect through festivals and not limit it to merrymaking. He went on to appreciate the Nagas for their traditional practices and giving equal opportunities to daughters and sons.
Emilo Patton, deputy director of school education, also spoke on Rashtriya Poshan Maa- nutrition month.
Various completions like folk fusion songs, painting, debate, essay, spelling bee, extempore speech, bamboo basket making, knitting and weaving were held at the event. DBHSS Wokha won the overall running trophy championship title in senior category, while Libemo Memorial School won in junior category and Fern Brook in sub-junior category.
