Wokha, 2o June (EMN): The Lotha Students Union (LSU) has demanded the district administration to furnish data regarding the notified order, guidelines in the government gazette which empowers the district administration to impose fine on ILP defaulters within seven days through print media or face agitation.
This issue surfaced after the district administration, Wokha allegedly released nine ILP defaulters who were handed over to the authority on 14th June, after levying a fine of INR 500 Rs.
In a press release, Lipemo M Tsopoe, president LSU and Ashanthung Humtsoe, general secretary LSU said such callous act on the part of the government was uncalled for, especially when Naga society was confronted with rampant inflow of illegal immigrants which were posing serious socio-economic problems in the State.
The LSU while expressing their disappointment said that despite repeated appeals, the district administration failed to provide any data with regards to the exact number of non-locals registered in the ILP cell office of Wokha district.
The union also expressed shock and disappointment at the lackadaisical approach of the district administration whose primary responsibility was to ensure the effective implementation of laws such as the ILP regulation and provide homeland security of the highest standards to protect the tribal population from exploitation, domination and extinction.
The LSU further appealed the state government to take a serious note on the higher influx of illegal immigrants in the state where the security of the state and the future of the people were at stake unless immediate measures are taken up by the government of the day.
The union also urged the government to draft and notify standard ILP regulation guidelines as the state government has no Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) or guidelines with regards to the ILP regulation unlike other states like Mizoram which has already notified clear ILP guidelines in their government gazette.
Giving a clarion call, LSU said the threat was not just for the people in Wokha district but the state as a whole and the LSU ILP cell asked the people and the state government to take up the issue of illegal immigrants on top priority with utmost urgency and seriousness unless it wished the next generation to be wiped out and enslaved by illegal immigrants who already control a major share of our market and economy.
‘There is an urgent need for reforms in our Government with focus on regulatory reforms & IT reforms. Regulatory reforms starting from drafting and notification of Nagaland ILP guidelines with special emphasis on stringent scrutiny of applicants from certain districts of Assam such as Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar which are infested with suspected Illegal Immigrants’, it stated.
The union also said immediate focus on both these regulatory and IT reforms should be taken up today by the government as it will enable a secure society and allow the indigenous Naga tribes to sustain themselves towards a thriving and prosperous future for generations to come.
