Wokha, June 15 (EMN): With the alarming rise in the number of illegal immigrants, Lotha Students’ union (LSU) has conducted a verification drive at Tsumang ‘A’ and ‘B’ colony on June 14.
Speaking to correspondent, LSU general secretary and Inner Line Permit (ILP) cell in-charge Ashanthung Humtsoe informed that nine persons were apprehended without ILP during the drive. He added that the defaulters were handed over to the concerned authority for necessary action.
The union has urged the concerned authority to deport those defaulters within 48 hours, failing which it warned to take its own course of action and that the concerned authority would be solely held responsible.
Humtsoe also stated that union would continue to conduct surprise ILP drive in the district. The union has urged the concerned authorities to be more cautious as well as to produce the exact figure on the total number of non-local registered in the ILP cell office, Wokha, as demanded by the LSU through a representation letter addressed to the deputy commissioner on May 10, 2018.
Meanwhile, vice president of Tsumang ‘A’ colony youth organisation Eshanthung Ngullie and president of Tsumang ‘B’ colony T Chumdemo Kikon have extended support to the initiative taken by the LSU ILP cell. The two youth leaders have informed house owners to be aware and cautious of the tenants while giving out for rent.
The first phase verification drive was accompanied by representatives of Lotha Hoho, LSU senior members and youth from Tsumag ‘A’ and ‘B.’
