DIMAPUR — The Lotha Lower Range Students' Union (LLRSU) has expressed deep sorrow and voiced its strong condemnation and grave concern over the continued delay of the Foothills Road Project in the Lotha Lower Range area and for the Lotha community in general.
In a press release, the union stated that the Foothills Road Project is of vital importance, yet it has remained stagnant despite repeated assurances from the concerned authorities.
It said that from its inception, the LLRSU has consistently stood in favour of the construction of quality roads, recognising their significance for connectivity, development, and the future of the people.
The LLRSU stated it is well aware of the genesis of the Foothills Road Project and has always supported development that benefits not only the Lotha Lower Range area but also the Lotha community and the Nagas in general. It recalled that the union had earlier issued a press release on February 28, 2025, clearly stating that the Foothills Road is a long-cherished dream of the people of Bhandari sub-division and the Lothas at large.
The union reiterated that it has never stood in favour of any firm, civil society organisation (CSO), concerned department, or any MLA or minister, but has solely stood for the timely completion of good roads for a brighter future for the people.
While acknowledging challenges such as the monsoon season and certain internal issues within the area, it stated that such reasons cannot justify sacrificing the long-cherished aspirations of the people. The project must be completed within the stipulated timeframe, as per the recent announcements made by the concerned department.
Failure to complete the project within the given timeframe may lead to unforeseen consequences that will adversely affect future generations. The LLRSU further emphasised that the Lower Range area is rich in natural resources, and any delay or failure in completing the Foothills Road Project will severely hinder exploration, development, and economic growth in the region.
Furthermore, the LLRSU acknowledged and appreciated all CSOs that have stood in support of this project. The union also requested all leaders to come forward with clear and decisive statements ensuring the early completion of the Nagaland Foothills Road Project within the Lotha Lower Range area.
The LLRSU reaffirmed that it will always stand for genuine and sustainable development that benefits the entire Lotha community and the Nagas in general.
