Dimapur, Jan. 29 (EMN): The 9th edition of Lotha Football Championship organised by the Wokha District Football Association (WDFA) got underway at the Wokha local ground on Tue. Jan. 29, with Manoj Kumar, IPS, S.P, Wokha as the special guest. This was stated in an update received here on Tuesday.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the SP congratulated WDFA for initiating such an event and giving platform to the youths to showcase their talents. He also appealed to the players to strive hard for excellence so that they excel and can play in the national and even international level.
Altogether 16 teams are taking part in the tournament. The champion of the tournament will walk away with a cash prize of INR 1 lakh with running trophy, certificates, and medals.
In the first match of the tournament defending champions NRSA defeated SP XI 7-1. Nyanthung of NRSA became the first player to score a hat trick after scoring five goals.
The lone goal for SP team was scored by Zubenthung in the 14th minute of the game.
In the second match Humtso Football club beat Brothers Football Club 3-1. Aremo, Yanchibemo, and Yanchumbemo found the net for Humtso FC in the 19th, 69th and 70th minute of the game.
