PHEK — The Losami Drivers' Union (LDU) held
its 32nd general session on December 26 at Ledepfu, Losami village, in Phek
district.
Attending the session as the guest of honour, Wepe Mekrisuh,
chairman of the Kohima Losami Union, lauded the LDU for reaching its 32nd year
and for undertaking various welfare activities for both its members and the
wider community, according to an update.
The LDU was founded by Neipetsu Akami on December 26, 1992.
Currently, the union has 220 members.
Mekrisuh stated that drivers play an important role in
socio-economic development. He urged them to maintain proper driving etiquette
and stressed the need to stay updated with the latest technology in the driving
sector.
He also urged the drivers to familiarise themselves with
road safety rules and safe driving practices. He emphasised the importance of
staying alert, being sincere, honest, and courteous.
He also called on the LDU to set up a motor workshop on the
two-lane highway along the Phek-Pfutsero route, which, he said, would benefit
vehicle users and provide job opportunities for the youth.
Earlier, LDU president Kewekhazo Tsido delivered the
presidential address. The session was chaired by LDU general secretary Wewuhi
Akami.
In the second session, LDU joint secretary Khronipe K Tara
presented the activities of the union, while the finance report was delivered
by finance secretary Chewu Khesoh.
Meanwhile, Kewekhazo Tsido has been re-elected as president
of the LDU, and Mechepe Khamo has been re-elected as general secretary, among
others.
