Chief Medical Officer, Mon, Dr Kechongol Sophie inaugurated the centre and unveiled the plaque on Wednesday. Located in Phomching block, Longzang has a population of 2,585 (as per 2011 census) and is considered to be one of the most inaccessible areas in Mon district. Speaking at the inaugural function, Chinge, president of NDPP, 44 A/C Phomching, requested the department to give all the facilities that a Sub-centre requires and that to provide manpower. Dr Sophie informed the participants during the occasion that the District Human Resource Committee has appointed a nurse for the new Sub-centre to ensure that it is functional until new staff is appointed. Stating that the Sub-centre should be treated as their “own child” and not a “step-child,” Dr Tinenlo, DTO, Mon, requested the village leaders and the general public to “have the sense of ownership and work for the betterment of the Sub-centre.” He added that chances of upgrading the facility depend on its performance. Explaining on the basic responsibilities of a Sub-centre, Bonnie Konyak, District Programme Manager, National Health Mission (NHM) said the government is focusing more on preventive measures at the Sub-centre level. The performance of the facility will wholly depend on the increase rate of fully immunised children, number of complete antenatal check-up (ANC), Village Health Nutrition Day (VHND) and family planning, she added.
