Longwa village hosts vibrant cultural event under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav
Dignitaries with cultural troupes at Longwa on November 15.


DIMAPUR — A vibrant cultural programme was held at Longwa village, situated along the Indo-Myanmar border in Mon district, on November 15.


The event was organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), in collaboration with Art & Culture department, Government of Nagaland, under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an update stated.


The programme aimed to foster cultural exchange, unity, and preservation of indigenous identity among border communities located near the international boundaries of China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan, alongside the eight North-eastern states of India.


Thanyalo Kath, Sub-Divisional Officer of Power department, Mon, the event’s guest of honour, highlighted the importance of sustaining traditional values, cultural expressions, and inter-community relationships.


He appreciated the efforts of the NEZCC and the Art & Culture department in organising the programme in such a strategically significant location.

The programme was marked by series of cultural showcases, featuring traditional dance and music.


Six cultural performances were presented by troupes from Longwa and Nyahnyu villages, reflecting the rich heritage, identity, and artistic legacy of the region.


Each performance brought forward the distinct rhythm, attire, and folklore unique to the communities, according to Teisovikuolie Therie, Deputy Director-cum-Nodal Officer of Art and Culture department.


Earlier, an introductory message was delivered by Peter Thanghoi Thai, District Cultural Officer, Mon, who outlined the purpose and significance of the programme under the ‘Vibrant Villages’ initiative, emphasising cultural preservation and community engagement in remote border areas.


The inaugural ceremony was chaired by W Kaiwang Konyak, Assistant Research Officer, Art & Culture department, Mon, while S Yona, pastor of Longwa Baptist Church, prayed for the programme.
