DIMAPUR — A
public rally has been organised on Monday, February 3, at Longwa village in Mon
district, in yet another demonstration of opposition to the government of
India’s move to fence the Indo-Myanmar border and scrap the older Free Movement
Regime (FMR).
In a press release issued on Sunday, the Longwa Students'
Union (LSU) informed that the rally is being organised by the Konyak Union.
It appealed to all the adult members of Longwa village to
attend the rally “to show our common resentment towards the government of
India's decision to scrap the FMR and to subsequently erect border fencing,
which will divide our people, whereby disturbing peace and order and hampering
our traditional integrity and rights.”
Accordingly, the LSU directed all the shops and institutions
within Longwa jurisdiction to remain closed from 6 am to 1.30 pm on Monday.
“Exceptions shall be granted only for healthcare services.
Entry and exit of vehicles (including daily taxi service) and movement of
public/tourists/visitors are strictly prohibited from 6 am to 1.30 pm.
Exceptions shall be granted only for healthcare services. Any individual/group
failing to adhere to the above-mentioned directives shall be penalised,” it
informed.
