Longsa, Dec. 29 (EMN): Longsa Eagle Club on December 29 celebrated its golden jubilee (1967-2017) with DIGP (R/Battalion) Mokokchung, Ngangshimakok Sangtam as the chief guest and the Additional Director of Fisheries, Rongsennungba, as the guest of honour at Salang Lenden in Longsa village.
The culmination of year-long golden jubilee celebration was held on the theme ‘Refinement’ which was attended by Longsa Eagle Club members, Longsa village council members, church leaders, in-laws of Longsa, invitees and others.
Speaking at the programme, Ngangshimakok Sangtam congratulated the club for achieving the great milestone of 50th year anniversary.
Appreciating the club for its yeomen services to the village and the society, especially during the jubilee year 2017, the police officer also encouraged the club to continue their noble works even in the days to come. He further heartened the club members to get inspiration from the bird eagle and be ‘focused and have a wider horizon’ and continue the good works. He also released the club golden jubilee souvenir.
MLA Merentoshi R Jamir, who is also a member of the club, also attended the programme. In his short speech, the legislator appreciated the many noble works done by the club for the Longsa village during the past fifty years.
Jamir further pointed out that 50th anniversary is by no means a small feat and therefore called for introspection and retrospection so that the club could contribute more in the years to come.
Others who spoke at the programme were guest of honour and additional director of fisheries, Rongsennungba; chairman of Longsa village council; and the presidents from the other three clubs in Longsa village namely Lions Club, Longsa, Salang Club Longsa, and Citizen Club, Longsa.
A minute silence was observed to pay homage to the departed club members and pioneers. A special song was also presented by one of the youngest club member, Jamiyinla Jamir, while the vote of thanks was delivered by convener of planning committee, L Bendangwati Pongener.
Meanwhile the club has resolved to conduct a seminar for the village council members, farmers and students at the earliest with good resource persons; to start a corpus fund to assist those educated youth vying for competitive examinations like UPSC and NPSC; and to take into practice the theme of the golden jubilee celebration ‘Refinement’ in every feature of societal life.
The convener of the golden jubilee organising committee, L Bendangwati said that the club, as part of its grand year-long golden jubilee celebration, had conducted some noble initiatives in a phased manner; notable among them are – massive blood donation on World Blood Donor’s Day’ at IMDH and in other district; free a medical camp, planting of trees on ‘World Environment Day’, providing a public address system in Longsa village etc.
