DIMAPUR — Longleng District Inter-Departmental Sports Meet 2026 kicked off at Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Longleng, on Thursday on the theme ‘Unity, teamwork, and physical well-being’.
Addressing the gathering, Longleng Deputy Commissioner W. Manpai Phom stated that the event was not merely about competing for trophies or winning but also about bringing people together, fostering mutual understanding, and promoting physical fitness and overall well-being.
Although officials and staff work under different departments, each department functions like an organ of the human body, with every unit playing an important role in the effective functioning of the government, he said, stressing the need to collectively contribute to achieving common goals.
He further stated that the present lifestyle, characterised by long hours of sitting at work and limited physical activity, makes it increasingly important for everyone to prioritise health and fitness.
He also said the sports meet should serve as a platform for interaction, allowing participants to get to know one another beyond their official responsibilities and workplace settings.
The inaugural programme featured a dance performance by The Chaos Crew of Yingli College, Longleng, while the oath-taking ceremony was administered by District Sports Officer, Longleng, Kenongotto Thokhwe, updated DIPR.
ADC and Convenor Longleng, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, delivered the welcome note earlier in the programme.
