Dimapur, June 13 : The 48-hour economic blockade on NH-702 called by four organizations in Longleng town has “culminates today.” The Longleng District Drivers’ Union, Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Longleng Town Students’ Union and the Longleng Town Wards’ Union issued a press release on Monday stating to have received an assurance from the authorities.
The blockade was in connection with a demand for “road maintenance project conducted by the company and concerned department of N11-702, LLG-CTN 2-Lanning road project...”
The protest, the note informed, was “launched immediately after the expiry of the 15 days extension allotted to the M&G Coy and the concerned dept. It was also the result of the company’s inability to fulfil their assurance of deploying sufficient man power and machineries for the maintenance of the road.”
The protesting organizations informed to have met with the dept in concern and representatives of M&G company on June 11. It was “resolved to lift the economic blockade on being assured by the concerned dept. and company to address the grievances of the four groups and promised to continuously maintain the road (LLG-CTN) fill the actual work is resumed,” the note stated.
“The manager had also given full assurance to provide additional machineries at the earliest. The 2nd phase of agitation was peaceful and no occurrence of any untoward incident has been reported. While the four groups reminded that on the failure of the company to carry out the maintenance work would compel, the union to reinitiate any course of action till the matters are address.”
