Longleng district observes ‘Cooperative Week’

[caption id="attachment_282875" align="aligncenter" width="600"] ARCS Longleng along with the participating registered societies during a programme organised to commemorate the All India Cooperative Week at Bhumnyu village in Longleng district on Friday.[/caption] Dimapur, Nov. 15 (EMN): Longleng district observed the 66th All India Cooperative Week at the Bhumnyu village council hall in Longleng district on November 15 on the theme ‘Role of cooperatives in New India.’ In a keynote address, assistant registrar of cooperative societies (ARCS), Longleng, I Chume Chang advocated for cooperation from the registered societies for the economic growth of the state and to elevate their livelihood. Chang also spoke on the importance of cooperative department as it deals with the grassroots towards the economy uplift of the farmers and self help groups. The ARCS reminded the members that their jobs are not over just by registering as a society and also advised that their target should not be to only avail loan/ subsidy. “Registering as a society and maintaining the society is for a long-term unless your society is cancelled and to sustain the society depends on you through your commitment,” Chang pointed out. He added that a society could be continued as hereditary if they are honest and committed towards their registered society. Speaking on “The advent of cooperative societies,” inspector of cooperative societies (ICS) Liopktangit Ozukum expounded that a state of the country plays major role in the promotion and sponsorship of cooperatives. He however stated that changing global contexts in recent years have forced the state to reposition itself with regard to cooperatives. Ozukum explained on the seven principles of cooperative namely voluntary and open membership; democratic member control; member economic participation; autonomy and independence; education, training and information; cooperation among cooperatives; and concern for community. In a short speech, chairman of Bhumnyu village council lauded the Longleng district cooperative societies department for relentlessly working towards the growth of the registered societies and acknowledged their commitment towards the growth of farmers.
