Longleng celebrates Girl Child Week

[caption id="attachment_254412" align="aligncenter" width="565"] Teachers and students of Government Middle School, Block Longleng, pose for a photograph on the occasion of Girl Child Week celebration on June 13.[/caption] Dimapur, June 13 (EMN): Mahila Shakti Kendra along with the District Task Force (DTF) on Beti Bechao Beti Padhoa (BBBP), Longleng, celebrated Girl Child Week on the theme “Empowering girls for a brighter tomorrow” at Government Middle School, Block Longleng, on June 13. The main objectives of the celebration was to create awareness on girl child rights and facts of life and to address the girl child issues associated to their health, respect, education, nutrition etc. The school’s headmaster, K Phaulem, in his welcome speech, appreciated the DTF BBBP and MSK Longleng for organising such a programme adding it was the first programme conducted exclusively for girl students in the school. He encouraged the girl students to be confident and stand for their rights and also to take such programme as an opportunity for the welfare of the girl students. Tutinungla Phom, district coordinator, gave a brief introduction on Girl Child Week celebration, while Phungla Phom, WWO MSK Longleng, felicitated outstanding girl students with certificate and gift hampers. She also stressed on the importance of girl child rights and encouraged them to fight against all odds and become a woman with dignity. Importance on girl child issues and needs were also discussed. Information on Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Longleng, was highlighted by Henchem Phom, centre administrator. After the programme, a special session was conducted where the girl students were given opportunities to explore their talent. The students presented songs, quotation, poem, speech etc. It was organised to make them realise their potentials and take the right decision for their future career. Gift hamper were given to all the girls students who attended the programme. The program was attended by high school girl students, teachers and OSC team.
