Dimapur, Sep. 9 (EMN): Longleng district organised a farewell programme for the outgoing Deputy Commissioner John Tsulise Sangtam in the conference hall of the DC on September 9.
The new DC, Shayung Phom, was also welcomed during the event, informed an update from DPRO Longleng.
In his farewell speech, Sangtam said three elections were conducted peaceful in the district during his tenure besides maintaining overall law and order with the active cooperation of the administrative officers, government officers, tribal bodies, student leaders and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) of the district. He also called on the new DC to accomplish some of the important tasks initiated during his period and urged the gathering to give full cooperation to Phom, informed the update.
Sangtam lamented that he could not provide service to the people as expected due to heavy workload on elections preparation, time constraints and other situations. He pointed out that “welfare agencies like health and education need to take extra care and effort” to help the people move ahead.
He appealed to the NGOs and civil societies to extend their cooperation to the administration; and the government officers to make positive impact on the development of Longleng. He also thanked the people of Longleng for organising the programme and felicitating him.
Phom, who has replaced Sangtam, called upon the people of the district to extend their cooperation and asserted that Deputy Commissioner of the district alone cannot bring any change without the active involvement and support of the people. He also said the government officers will need “the support and cooperation of the NGOs and civil societies in every activity” and urged the people not to hamper the developmental activities, especially on road sector initiated in the district.
He asserted that “in order to bring real transformation in the district, we need to be a donor but not a receiver.” He also “urged the people not to consider him as a local individual from the district but as one of the officer posted in the district to serve the people” so that he can successfully do his assignment.
