Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): The first doctor among the Phom community and the chief medical officer (CMO) of District Hospital Longleng, Dr. Kongyan Phom, was accorded an affectionate farewell on October 31 upon his retirement.
Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, Tsulise John Sangtam lauded the outgoing officer for completing his tenure and retiring in good health. The DC believed that the doctor had put all his efforts and delivered his service to the people during his tenure in service.
Sangtam stated that the real achievement for a government servant is known by how much one has made a sincere and honest effort in delivering service and justice to the job. He added that those are the happiest officers who will have a happy retired life.
The administrator expressed hope that Dr. Kongyan will continue to contribute to the society even after retirement. The DC hoped that he would use his time and past experience to connect with the society and guide people in a positive way.
The retiring CMO, in his parting speech, expressed gratitude to department and the community for rendering their help and support during his tenure in office. He recounted his journey as the first and the only doctor from the Phom community in 1989, when he would walk to Tuensang district to collect his salaries.
The doctor stated he could not go for specialisation course as he was the only doctor in the district and his service was in dire need. He would also train few nurses as there was no one to assist him.
Dr. Phom requested the NGOs, Phom Gazetted Officers’ Association, Phom Peoples’ Council and well wishers to contribute towards the ongoing construction of labour room for the benefit of all in the district. He further appealed the staff to cooperate and work hard for the betterment of the hospital and the public in general.
