Longjang become first village in Nagaland to have helipad

Longjang, Nov. 23 (EMN): Longjang, under Asetkong range of Mokokchung district, has become the first village in Nagaland to have its own helipad.

The helipad, christened Longjang Helipad, was constructed by the 3 Buba Medemsanger Longjang Lanu Tata Zünga (peer group) and inaugurated by Minister of Rural Development, Metsübo Jamir, on Wednesday.

The new helipad is about 20 kilometre away from Mokokchung town.

Stating that Longjang Helipad is the first of its kind in the state, the minister lauded the peer group for displaying an exemplary initiative by constructing the facility through the contribution of its members.

He also said that Longjang village has been blessed with topography suitable for agricultural crops, besides successfully implementing various governmental projects, which is a huge boost for the district and the state.

He also asserted that the RD department has been reaching out to villages in the state to uplift the local economy through various programmes and make the grassroots the stakeholders for growth of local economy.   

In this regard, he observed that Longjang is a progressive village and lauded the efforts of the villagers to join hands and work for common welfare.

While maintaining that his family is close to Longjang village, the minister said political relationship is temporary but strengthening each other through cultural bond is permanent. He, therefore, appealed to the villagers to cherish and uphold the bond as one family.

T Temjen Jamir, in his welcome address, stated that as per the age-old tradition practiced by the Longjang village, Lanu Menden Tarensen is the most crucial stage responsible to perform the assigned duties directed by the Putu Menden (Village Council) for a period of three years.

 “As we entered this stage, the Lanupokyim Zunga (3 Buba Medemsanger Longjang Tata Zunga) had resolved to initiate a good deed for the welfare of the village by constructing a helipad,” he informed.
