Kohima, May 27 (EMN): The Nagaland Lokayukta Bill 2015 introduced in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly has been delayed again as the select committee appointed for it has sought ‘extension of its tenure,’ during the special assembly session today.
During the session, the chairman of the select committee for Nagaland Lokayukta Bill 2015, Levi Rengma moved for extension of the tenure of the committee for another six months to present its report.
The Bill was introduced in the assembly in July 2015 by former Chief Minister TR Zeliang. The select committee had in July 2016 sought an extension of six months to table its report too.
Various sections of the society continue to demand enactment of Lokayukta in Nagaland. They have questioned the Nagaland government’s sense of accountability for delaying the passing of the anti-corruption Bill time and again.
Even the governor of Nagaland PB Acharya had also reminded the Nagaland government openly on the need to enact the Lokayukta Bill at the earliest so as to check rampant corruption in the state.
The select committee includes Levi Rengma as chairman, parliamentary secretaries R Tohanba, C Apok Jamir and Pukhayi Sumi, and advisor Dr. TM Lotha as members.
