DIMAPUR, AUGUST 10: The Select Committee on the Nagaland Lokayukta Bill has convened a meeting, scheduled to be conducted on August 18. The time for the event is set at 11:00 AM and will be conducted in the committee room of the Assembly Secretariat. The meeting is “in connection with the examination of the Nagaland Lokayukta Bill, 2015,”the parliamentary secretary for Housing Levi Rengma, the chairman of the committee informed on Wednesday.
All the members of the committee are requested to attend the meeting.
The Lokayukta (also Lok Ayukta) is an anti-corruption ombudsman organization in the Indian states.
The Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) headed by Morarji Desai submitted a special interim report on “Problems of Redressal of Citizen’s Grievances” in 1966. In this report, the ARC recommended setting up two special authorities designated as ‘Lokpal’ and ‘Lokayukta’ for the redress of citizens’ grievances.
The LokAyukta, along with the Income Tax Department and the Anti Corruption Bureau, mainly helps people publicize corruption among politicians and government officials.
