Mokokchung DC on campaign prohibition, EVMs/VVPATs commissioning
Dimapur, April 1 (EMN): DC and assistant returning officer, Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan, IAS has issued a notice informing that in compliance with the Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, campaigning in any form is prohibited 48 hours before the polling, that is starting 4 pm on April 9 till the voting ends at 4 pm on April 11.
According to Section 126, no person shall (a) Convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election, (b) Display to the public any election matter by means of cinematography, television or other similarapparatus, (c) Propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of any musical concert or theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the members of the public, read a statement from DPRO, Mokokchung. Any person who contravenes the provisions mentioned in the act is punishable with imprisonment for up to two years, or with fine, or with both.
All the candidates and political parties have been directed to strictly comply with the provisions of the law and that strict action will be initiated against any individual or group or organisation that violate it, added the statement.
In another notification, the DC has informed that the commissioning and preparation of EVMs and VVPATs that will be used in the upcoming Lok Sabha and by-election to 26 Aonglenden assembly constituency will be carried out at Town Hall, Mokokchung from April 2 to 4
th at 9 am. So, all the contesting candidates and political parties have been requested to be present or send their representatives to witness the mock polls. It went on to say that no electronic gadgets, including mobile phones will be allowed inside the hall.
EVMs/VVPATs commissioning in Pughoboto
ADC & DEO Pughoboto, K.Mhathung Tsanglao has issued a notice informing all the recognised political parties under 13-Pughoboto assembly segment that the commissioning of EVMS/VVPATs for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be held at the office of ADC & DEO Pughoboto on April 2 at 9 am onwards. All recognised political parties have been directed to send their representatives for the same.
Accredited journalists to be issued security passes
In view of the proposed rally by Congress president Rahul Gandhi at DDSC stadium Dimapur on April 3, DPRO Dimapur has issued a notice informing all the accredited journalists to obtain security passes from the Commissioner of Police’s office in Dimapur to cover the event by submitting their accreditation cards issued by government of Nagaland on April 2 during office hours.
Home guards personnel trained on election
A one-day training programme was held for the Wokha district home guards personnel drafted for the upcoming Lok Sabha election under the initiative of the Superintendent of Police, Wokha at Home Guards & Civil Defense district office on March 30.
During the programme, resource person Medosa Yoho, circle inspector, DEF, Wokha, briefed the personnel on general guideline for the Lok Sabha polls, enforcement of model code of conduct, general duties and responsibilities, guideline on ‘before the polling day’ for police/home guards personnel, do’s and don’ts and guidelines on return from polling station, informed Zubenthung, IA Wokha.
Election training, Sveep programme at Longleng
The 2nd phase of training for the polling personnel under Longleng district was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Longleng on March 29 and 30
th, informed an update from DPRO of the district. The 3rd and final phase of training will be held on April 4 and 5
th at the GHSS, Longleng from 9 am onwards. The Deputy Commissioner and ARO, Longleng will address the polling personnel for smooth conduct of election in the district at the programme.
Meanwhile, the district administration will be observing Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) week from April 1 to 6
th in connection with the upcoming general elections in Longleng. EVM/VVPAT awareness programme for political parties and NGOs under Longleng will be held on April 1 at at EVM/VVPAT sensitisation centre, DC office, Longleng and at IRB Camp Chingtok on April 2, according to an update from DPRO, Longleng.
The update went on to say that activation of mobile van and deployment of VG truck from Longleng HQ to Tamlu HQ will start from April 3 and “signature campaign” at ADC Tamlu on April 4. Distribution of poster and pamphlets at election branch on April 5, and half marathon race from DC office to Phom Lampong-Phom Lampong to DC office, Longleng to be held on April 6. The ADC & ARO & nodal officer for SVEEP Temsuwati Longkumer will oversee all the activities of the programme.
General election observer visits Tuensang
General election observer for Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire, Longleng and Mokokchung, Ravi Jha visited Tuensang on March 31. The observer had a round of review of all the election monitoring cells at DC’s chamber and also visited the Tuensang Town Chang Baptist Church and addressed the congregation on systematic voters’ education and electoral participation (SVEEP) programme. He also attended the video conferencing where all the nodal officers of monitoring cells were invited, said an update from Thungti Chang, IA Tuensang.
Expenditure observer holds meeting at Jalukie
Expenditure observer, L.P. Singh IRS conducted a meeting with the DC Peren, ADC Jalukie and all the teams functioning under the Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell (EEMC) Peren at Jalukie on March 31. The official enquired about the present status of EEMC Peren and appraised everyone about the guidelines issued by the ECI regarding election expenditure, an update from DPRO & Shahlong, IA Peren.
Mass rally on SVEEP at Zunheboto
A mass rally on accessible election for person with disabilities was held at Zunheboto on April 1 under the initiative of DC and DEO of the district in collaboration with the Social Welfare department as part of SVEEP programme. Wheel chairs and T-shirts were distributed to the differently able persons during the rally, informed an update from DPRO, IA Zunheboto.
AEO Zunheboto Nathan Konyak also demonstrated the use of EVM and VVPAT to the disabled persons, while deputy commissioner of Zunheboto Shanavas C, IAS thanked all the participants and encouraged the differently able persons to be strong, confident and accept challenges.
Polling training at Kiphire
Polling personnel training for Kiphire district was conducted at DBs Court, Deputy Commissioner’s office, Kiphire on April 1 for those who could not attend the previous training programme. This was done in order to ensure that the polling personnel are made aware of control unit, ballot unit and VVPAT, informed DPRO Kiphire.
Tuensang DC directs officers to be in station
Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Mohammad Ali Shihab, IAS has issued a notice informing that many heads of offices in the district are found absent from their place of posting without seeking prior permission which has greatly hampered the electioneering process. An update issued by DPRO Tuensang stated that “such negligence of duties by the officers is totally uncalled for and is being viewed very seriously, particularly at a time when the entire state machinery is totally geared up for the conduct of the forthcoming parliamentary election.”
The DC has directed all the heads of offices to report for work and remain in their posting places with immediate effect, failing which strict disciplinary action will be initiated as per the law.
SVEEP bike rally held at Tuensang
DC & DEO office Tuensang organised a bike rally as part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign at an awareness programme on April 1. ADC Tuensang, M. Chaitanya Prasad flagged off the rally by Nagaland Motor Cycle Club Tuensang Chapter at DC Office Complex, informed Thungti Chang, IA Tuensang.
General observer holds meeting at Dimapur
To take stock of the poll preparedness in Dimapur, general observer of Lok Sabha election for the district, Alok IAS, held a meeting with the district Administration and different nodal officers at the DC’s conference hall on April 1.
Various aspects relating to accessibility for voters with special needs, transportation and poll materials were discussed during the meeting. DC & DEO Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol briefed the official (general observer) about the district and its preparedness for smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha election. NMC asks medical practitioners to provide their details
Deputy Registrar of Nagaland Medical Council (NMC), Dr. Kevilhulie Meyase has informed all allopathic doctors registered under the council that with reference to the Board of Governors in supersession of Medical Council of India vide No. MCI-207(1) (Gen.) 2018-IMR/180651 dated 23/2/2019, directing the State Medical Council to collect individual information. In this regard, all the registered medical practitioners have been asked to fill up all the columns and submit it to the Nagaland Medical Council office at the earliest, informed an update from the DIPR.
