Lockdown: 11,824 individuals and 7315 vehicles detained in Manipur

Imphal, April 25 (EMN): In the first 25 days of lockdown and curfew in Manipur due to outbreak of Covid-19, the state police department has detained as many as 11,824 individuals and 7315 vehicles for defying lockdown/curfew, according to daily police press releases.

A total amount of INR 8,90,660 was also collected as fines during the lockdown/curfew period of 25 days(March 25 to April 18).

Among the districts, Thoubal district police team have detained the maximum number of curfew/lockdown violators and vehicles while Churachandpur district police team also detained maximum number of violators and vehicles among the 10 hill districts of the state, the source said.

As many as 3704 violators along with 1939 vehicles were detained during the above period in Thoubal district alone. Thoubal is followed by Imphal West district (2767 violators and 2173 vehicles) and Bishnupur district (1722 violators and 972 vehicles).

Similarly altogether 981 violators and 724 were detained in Churachandpur district and it was followed by Tamenglong district with 161 violators and 23 vehicles and Kangpokpi district with 156 violators and 152 vehicles.

In the fine collection area too, Thoubal district police have collected total amount of INR 2,62,820 as of April 18 while Bishnupur and Imphal West district collected INR 1,86,248 and INR 1,33,800 respectively.

At the same time during the same period, Churachandpur district police collected a total amount of INR 71,500 while Tamenglong and Senapati collected INR 31,000 and INR 21,250 respectively, the source added.

Meanwhile as part of the ongoing drive to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the Manipur Police on saturday detained 922 lockdown and curfew violators along with 740 vehicles, Additional Director General (L/O) of Police L Kailun stated in a press release. They were produced before the concerned magistrates and fines of INR 1,12,440 was imposed. The release issued on Saturday also warned those who violate the lockdown/curfew shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act 2005.
