[dropcap]T[/dropcap]hree men who allegedly tried to shoot at a Jemadar of 3rd Indian Reserve Battalion were caught and beaten up badly at Mongshangei today. Later they were handed over to Imphal West district police.
The incident happened at Mongsangei Mayai Leikai at around 2.30 pm this afternoon. The three were identified as Sunil Thangjam (34), son of Kulabidhu and Maibam Ranbir, son of Raghu (35) of Heirangoithong and Loitongbam Ranjan (35), son of Raghu of Haobam marak Chingtham Leirak.The trio came in two cars - Verna (MN04 A 7978) and Santro (MN04 A 4304).
There was an argument for a few minutes between the three men and Akoijam Sashikumar, who is a Jemadar, near his residence in connection with a rented car. Later, the three persons pulled out a double barrel gun and fired upon Sashikumar.
Locals of the Mongsangei rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshot and caught the trio and beat them up blue and black. Later, the three were handed over police.
Man dies in mishap
A 65-year-old man died in a road mishap around 1 pm yesterday. He was hit by an Enticer motorcycle near his work place at Khongjom Brick Field while he was riding his bicycle.
After the accident, he was admitted to the JNIMS hospital at Porompat and later at around 7.30 pm in the evening, he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Puyam Jugai (65) of Langathel Khuman Leikai.
