
Abiogenesis Theatre Group from Nagaland performed a drama called ‘howey musical drama’ with the title ‘Putu and his tiger spirit’ at the GVITA National Theatre Festival in Gubbi, Karnataka on January 27.
A statement received on Tuesday disclosed that the drama was a new form of musical based on a folk-era fiction written by playwright and director, Arenla Subong, with dialogues and songs in English and sung in Naga folk tunes.
The update explained that Putu was a man who possessed a tiger spirit. He was saddened when he learned from his wife about the theft happening in their field. He swung into action along with his wife and confronted a woman (thief) and her boyfriend. The drama continued with the two couples confronting each other time and again.
“The unique and colourful Naga costumes and culture, along with the songs in Naga folk tunes made the drama a real treat,” the press statement mentioned.
According to the update, the cast members included Arenla Subong as Jemti; Moa Subong as Putu; V Hotovi as Akato; Limatula Longkumer as Amakla; and Lipokmeren, who performed dual role as Sendong and tiger spirit. The technicians were Lipokmeren and Kibulong Imsong.
The update informed that the festival was organised by Dr. Gubbi Veeranna Trust, Karnataka and sponsored by Sangeet Natak Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
