Jalukie Valley Fishery Co-operative Society Ltd. launches ‘Local fresh fish sale’ at Jalukie Daily Market.

DIMAPUR — The launching programme of the ‘Local fresh fish sale’ by Jalukie Valley Fishery Co-operative Society Ltd., promoted by the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Peren, was held on August 15 at Jalukie Daily Market, Peren district.
During the inaugural event, Albert Ezung, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jalukie, highlighted the crucial role cooperatives play in sustainable management and promotion of aquatic resources, a DIPR report stated.
The ADC also encouraged the fish farmers to increase fish production and improve the fishermen’s socio-economic conditions. Ezung apprised them to ensure responsible use of fishery resources and also stated that by organising fishermen cooperative societies, the groups can collectively address challenges like access to resources, marketing and financial support in the community.
Further, he maintained that the cooperatives can facilitate access to better farming in fishery.

Ezung emphasised that the implementation of such fishing practices ensures long term sustainable practice.
Earlier, District Fishery Officer, C Dory Yanthan, highlighted the purpose of the launching of Valley Fishery Co-operative Society and informed that initially, local fresh fish will be available twice a week — Tuesdays and Fridays — in the market.
Rev. Kuzerang invoked God’s blessings during the launching programme.
