The state government has directed all the Deputy Commissioners to initiate a “Local Complaints Committee” to “receive” complaints on sexual harassment “of women employees” at workplaces, in their respective districts and jurisdictions.
According to a DIPR report, the Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to designate a nodal officer in each sub-division to “receive” the complaints. It informed that the Committee should consist of a chairperson “nominated from amongst the eminent women in the field of social work and committed to the cause of women.”The other members must include “one nominated from amongst the women working in sub-divisions” and another two members “of whom at least one shall be a woman, to be nominated from amongst such NGOs or Associations committed to the cause of women or a person familiar with the issues relating to sexual harassment, which may be prescribed.” It added that at least one of the nominees should, preferably, have a background in law or legal knowledge.
