Kohima, Dec. 10 (EMN): National General Secretary of Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) party, Javed Raza on Friday asked the government of India (GoI) that Supreme Court sitting judges conduct an inquiry into the recent Mon firing incidents by the Indian security forces that killed 14 civilians.
The government has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the ambush that killed more than a dozen civilians and the team has been asked to submit its report within a month.
Raza has sought for a fair inquiry into the incident.
"I urged the government to conduct free and fair inquiry by the sitting judge of the Supreme Court of India," he told Eastern Mirror.
While conveying condolences to the families of the victims, he asked the government of India to give a “compensation” amount of INR 50 lakh each to next of kin of the deceased.
It may be mentioned that the state government had announced INR 5 lakh ex gratia to the families of the 14 victims, while the Centre had announced INR 11 lakh ex gratia and government jobs.
Stating that it has already been five days after the incident, he asked the government to sit with family members of the victims and discuss about the employment being assured to them. 'The government should also provide scheme like free, education and free medical facilities to them,’ he added.
He also demanded the government to immediately shift the injured persons tor nearby hospitals if the health facilities in Nagaland lack medical facilities to treat them.
Meanwhile, he lauded the government of Nagaland for deciding to hold a special Assembly session to discuss the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
‘It is right time; the chief minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, has taken a good decision in calling a special Assembly session to discuss an urgent matter,’ he said.
Meanwhile, Raza said that the LJD party appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace and harmony.
