Health officials along with the teachers and students during
World Oral Health Day at GMS Wakching on Thursday.
DIMAPUR — Several districts across Nagaland
observed World Oral Health Day on Thursday on the theme “A happy mouth is a
happy mind” by organising literary competitions. World Oral Health Day is
observed annually on March 20 to draw attention on oral health being, which is
a key indicator of overall health, well-being and quality of life.
Mokokchung: National Oral Health Programme (NOHP),
Mokokchung, observed World Oral Health Day on Thursday at Lady Bird School on
the theme “A happy mouth is a happy mind.”
An update from the office of the chief medical officer
(CMO), Mokokchung, stated that Dr. Keneitheja, dental surgeon at IMDH, spoke on
the importance of oral health and imparted necessary oral hygiene awareness to
the teachers and students of the school.
A painting competition was also conducted, wherein Imnatila
Lemtur of class 9 secured the first position, while Lipoktuden Pongen of class
9 and Bendangyangla Tzudir of class 7 secured second and third positions
respectively. Certificate and cash prize was awarded to all the winners.
Mon: World Oral Health Day was also observed at Government
Middle School (GMS) Wakching in Mon district, organised by NOHP of District
Hospital, Mon.
Around 230 students from different schools attended the
programme, wherein Dr. Esther Chophy Ngullie, district nodal officer of NOHP,
Mon, spoke on the theme and informed that oral health has psychological
benefits.
She stated that a healthy smile contributes to positive
self-esteem and mental well being and added that people with good oral hygiene
practices are more likely to engage socially, fostering healthy relationships
with others thereby reducing stress levels.
Poster competition was also conducted on the theme, where 13
students from 6 schools participated. Cash prizes and certificates were given
to all the participants.
Kohima: The dental department of Naga Hospital Authority
Kohima (NHAK) organised World Oral Health Day programme at Government Middle
School, Merhulietsa, in Kohima district.
The resource person, Dr. Neingutunuo Angami, highlighted on
the importance of good oral hygiene and its association with mental well being
and overall health.
Essay writing and poster-making competitions were conducted
for the students and cash award along with certificates were given to the
winners. Dr. Mhonseli Yanthan gave away the prizes to the winners.
The pledge-taking and vote of thanks was led by Dr.
Neiphrezo Sorünuo.
Altogether, 100 students and staff participated in the
programme. Free oral kits were given to all the participants.
Zunheboto: NOHP Zunheboto under the aegis of the Department
of Health and Family Welfare observed World Oral Health Day at Bloomfield Higher
Secondary School in Zunheboto town.

and students of Bloomfield Higher Secondary School in Zunheboto on the occasion
of World Oral Health Day on Thursday.
Speaking at the occasion, senior dental surgeon at DH
Zunheboto, Dr. K Rosy Yhome, informed that oral diseases are among the most
common non-communicable diseases worldwide affecting an estimated 3.5 billion
people. She stated that the global initiative aims to empower individuals with
the knowledge and tools to prevent and control oral diseases.
Dr. Yhome, who also administered the pledge, stated that
oral care is a life-long process and should be done so with priority by
focusing of good eating habits, regular examination of dental health etc.
Psychiatrist at NTCP, Alibo Assumi, and the school
proprietor, Hekato Zhimo, also spoke on the occasion.
