Dimapur, Jan. 30 (EMN): Excise department has destroyed 14,796 bottles of assorted liquor worth INR 10,53600 in the open market in the premise of the Directorate of Excise and Prohibition, Dimapur, on January 30.
Giving detailed report of the seized articles, Superintendent of Excise, Mobile Squad Dimapur, Katoho Sumi, said 14,796 bottles of assorted liquor were seized which included 6231 bottles of IMFL (Rum, Whisky, breezer) and 8565 bottles of beer from August 25, 2017, to January 24, 2018. He informed that 319 cases were registered and arrested 319 persons in the connection. He further informed that a fine amount of INR 3, 19, 000 was realised from the defaulters.
Commissioner of Excise and Prohibition, Tarep Imchen, in his address, said despite Nagaland’s Excise department operating with just 203 constables, the department was providing a yeoman service.
“We are short of manpower but despite this we are executing an excellent service,” exhorted Imchen adding “It is not only the department who should contribute to combat this menace but every NGOs and the society in general should contribute.”
Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Narcotic Cell Dimapur Kevisetuo Angami, who chaired the programme, asserted that the seized articles were destroyed with the approval from the Commissioner. He further added that the department could continue to fight against liquor bootlegging in the state.
