Dimapur, Nov. 26 (EMN): The narcotic cell, mobile squad, and excise wing of the department of Excise in Dimapur, carried out a combined ‘destruction programme’ of seized drugs and liquor at the Excise Directorate Complex compound in Dimapur on Tuesday.
Altogether, the seized liquor and drugs during the past one year consisted of 18,079 bottles of assorted liquor; 30 kg of ganja; 31.8 grams of brown sugar; 283 tablets of Nitrosun; 6475 bottles of Codeine cough syrup; and 44368 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon.
The net value of the destroyed liquor and drugs was estimated to be INR 38,48,920. The revenue deposited to the government treasury through fine amounted to INR 14,86,500.
The Commissioner of Excise and Director of Prohibition, Tarep Imchen lauded the staff under the Excise department for being the "keeper of the state although many a times, we are faced with many challenges and downfalls during the service”.
Imchen described the work done by the department as 'actions speak louder than a words' and added that the Excise team will continue to ‘fight the battle’.
Emphasising more on ensuring law and order in the land, he urged the Excise team to keep on doing the same work to do away with the 'evil of the society.'
He further encouraged them to be ‘more visible to the world and show people that we are truly doing our work with integrity’.
Judicial magistrate, Boduve Peter Resu also spoke during the programme. Resu lauded the Excise department for the good work they have done over the years. He also stressed on the need for the legal authority and the police to work together to ensure smooth and effective law and order in the state.
