Lifestyle related diseases on rise in Phek

Dimapur, September 9: Medical Superintendent, Phek, Dr. Denis Hangsing said lifestyle related diseases such as hypertension, diabetics etc. in Phek district are on the rise and highlighted prevalence of Respiratory Tract Infection among young children and other viral and infectious diseases. Presenting the departmental activities at the monthly Phek District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) on September 8 held in its conference hall under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner and vice chairman DPDB, Phek, Muroho Chotso, Dr. Denis Hangsing said District Hospital Phek registered 8683 OPD patients, 776 indoor patients, 1475 emergency patients and conducted 29 major operations and 182 minor operations during the year 2015-16. The Board expressed concerned over non- availability of a surgeon in the District Hospital Phek for many years. Upon learning that one post of Orthopedic Surgeon from District Hospital is attached to District Hospital, Dimapur, the Board resolved to write to the government to detach the officer concerned to be reposted to the District Hospital, Phek.The DC requested all the Head of Offices to attend the public reception along with subordinate staff during the Governor’s visit to the district on September 12. He has also informed the members that some departments have been listed to interact with the Governor for which he directed them to be prepared. Kedutsho Khape, Information Assistant, Phek, presented the departmental activities wherein he highlighted that the department collects and disseminates news to the public with special focus on the developmental activities of the government. The department is also the nodal department for all government advertisement, he said. Meanwhile, the Board agreed to conduct an inter-departmental badminton tournament during the current year and also agreed to recommend the society registration of Hill Innovation Lead Organisation (HILO), Pfutsero. NABARD and NYK Phek have been entrusted to present their departmental activities.
