Dimapur, June 3 (EMN): PS to MP Rajya Sabha Swapan Dasgupta, Shyamal Mukherjee, on June 2 inaugurated a library cum museum at the North East Network (NEN) Resource Centre in Chizami.
According to update from NEN, the inaugural programme was also attended by MLA Khalo, community leaders, neighbouring villages, student leaders, and NEN members.
The cultural interpretation centre – library cum museum is a part of phase-I project under MPLADS of MP Rajya Sabha Swapan Dasgupta, in 2017. An amount of INR 15, 52,000 was sanctioned for the project, the press release informed.
Mukherjee in his inaugural speech highlighted various projects in north eastern region which MP Dasgupta has supported under MPLADS.
He expressed his happiness at the successful implementation of the project which is a community asset that will benefit many people, and also committed to support the future initiatives of NEN and the community at large.
MLA Khalo in appreciated the MP and Mukherjee, who is like a “bridge linking the state and the central government.” Lauding the vision of the NEN and its effort to uplift the community especially women and girls, he said earlier the status of women in the society is very low as they were considered “second class” citizens to men. However,he added that the is slowly changing and women are progressing in various fields.
He encouraged the community especially men to support such positive initiatives for the overall development of the Society.
Seno Tsuhah of NEN acknowledged the contribution of the MP in making the long-felt dream a reality. She also thanked the department of Arts and Culture and well wishers for contributing books for the library which now has over 1300 books.
“Society is rapidly disintegrating. Our role as change agents is to facilitate inter-generational and inter-cultural exchanges. Through this Centre, we hope to build a space for dialogue, conversation for a new and healthy society,” Tsuhah remarked.
“People who read more have a wider perspective on the world around us and this is critical for young people today.” She said.
Abulo Naro, a student of Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School Chizami and a library user of NEN shared that the library to her is a window to a beautiful landscape of trees, animals, birds, and insects. “I saw a world beyond Chizami. It helped me understand the various developments that is happening elsewhere and also issues concerning the environment and climate change,” he she said.
NEN members Dilo Koza and Wekoweu Tsuhah highlighted on the MPLADS fund report and activities of NEN in line.
