DIMAPUR — In a first, Nokpu village in Mangkolemba sub-division, Mokokchung district, on June 21 inaugurated the Liangmen Fish Sanctuary to protect its aquatic wildlife.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Tzükhuchanger Jupang in collaboration with the Nokpu Village Council and Saringyim (Nokpu B) Village Council, saw the release of approximately 50,000 fish nursery stock into the Liangmen River, an update state.
“The sanctuary aims to raise awareness about conserving local flora and fauna while maintaining the ecological balance of nature. Beyond conservation, the sanctuary is set to become a scenic spot for travellers and nature enthusiasts, offering a serene escape amidst thriving biodiversity,” it stated.
The Tzükhuchanger Jupang and both village councils extended their gratitude to Temsuwapang Longchar (AFI Mokokchung) for his unwavering support in arranging the fish nursery.
They also thanked Lanuchuba Imchen, DMC councillor of Ward-20, for his contributions towards the initiative.
“Looking ahead, the Jupang revealed plans for an even larger conservation project encompassing flora and fauna, further strengthening efforts to protect the environment and preserve ecological harmony,” the update added.
