Liangmai Naga bodies met the Manipur chief minister seeking release of six abducted men from Kangpokpi district.

IMPHAL — A delegation of the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) and Liangmai Naga Women Union on Tuesday called on Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and demanded the immediate release of six missing men, including a pastor, who were abducted by unknown armed men on May 13 from Kangpokpi district.
According to a press release issued by the chief minister’s secretariat in Imphal, a Liangmai tribal leader told the chief minister that even if the six men from Konsakhul village, who were allegedly taken hostage by suspected armed men, are dead, their bodies should be handed over to their respective families to enable them to perform the last rites.
The tribal leaders also demanded deployment of state police forces in vulnerable Liangmai villages in Kangpokpi district, the release stated.

The chief minister informed the delegation that state police and CRPF personnel are conducting combing operations in suspected areas to trace the six missing men.
Appealing for calm amid the prevailing situation, the chief minister assured that the state government is making all-out efforts to ease tensions and restore peace in the affected areas. He appealed to all communities to shun violence and cooperate with the government in restoring peace and normalcy.
The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC), Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi, Manipur (LPNR), and Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur (LNKR) jointly submitted a memorandum to the chief minister highlighting their grievances.
Tamenglong issues highway travel advisory
The Tamenglong district administration in Manipur on Tuesday issued a travel advisory urging residents travelling to Imphal and returning to the district headquarters under unavoidable circumstances to travel with security convoys deployed along the highway.
According to the advisory issued by Deputy Commissioner L Angshim Dangshawa, residents travelling between Tamenglong-Imphal-Tamenglong for health check-ups, education or other matters of utmost importance have been advised to travel along with security convoys deployed along the highway.
“The convoy is generally scheduled on a daily basis unless disrupted due to natural calamities or other unforeseen circumstances,” the advisory stated.
“Therefore it is advised to plan your travel in close coordination with the district police to facilitate necessary assistance and ensure safe passage.”
