Kohima, Dec. 8 (EMN): Lhuvi Vakha and Mhasi Mor from Khonoma village emerged as the winner of the traditional open-wooden-wheel race—Go carting, a feature of the ongoing Hornbill Festival of Nagaland.
The game began as early as 7 am on Saturday, Dec. 8 to avoid causing traffic congestion and to race smoothly. The Police Headquarter junction marked the starting point and finish at Old MLA junction in Kohima. Unlike the first edition in 2017, this year more participants turned up for the indigenous race with 60 in total, which was divided into 30 teams. Both locals and international tourists including three tourists from Germany, Austria, and Czech Republic participated in the eco-friendly race Go-cart race.
Interestingly, the oldest participants Yasukha Kath and Senyamu Kath from Tseminyu, who were 56 year-old, had won the ‘best design and custom’ for their Go-cart. The duo walked away with the cash prize of INR 5000. The winners of the race were awarded with two gear cycles. The second place was awarded to team Neikhrievoto Mejura and Khriedi Mejura from Phesama village, who won two BMX cycles. While, Ngopisa Temi and Sorhovito Rote from Kidima Village bagged the third position and walked away with two BMX cycles.
“Despite the financial constrains we faced in order to organise the event, we wanted to promote the indigenous game,” said Lovito Achumi, manager of Go Travels. This time the game was divided into two categories—junior and senior, however due to ongoing examinations at schools, there were no participants from junior category, Achumi added. The participants were also made to bring self made go-cart for the competition. The event was organised by the Go Travels in collaboration with the Tourism department.
