DIMAPUR — English department of Livingstone Foundation International College (LFIC) conducted a book reading and interaction session with Smita D Talukdar, the author of the book ‘Stop. No!’ on August 24.

An update from LFIC stated that the programme began with reading of the prologue of the book ‘Stop. No!.’ It stated that the book talks about the issue of child abuse adding that although it is a fictional book, it portrays a real-life issue.

Smita's main objective, according to her, ‘is to empower the youth with knowledge of child abuse and help them learn about it.'

The author enlightened the students on the problem of child abuse, how it affects the mental health of a child until he or she grows old and the way those issues are being ignored by society as a whole. She stated that the abuse could, in turn, have a grave outcome if not stopped.

Smita stated that a touch or look that is inconsistent and inappropriate and makes one uncomfortable is harassment. She also briefed the students on the law passed on eve-teasing.

She concluded by saying that child abuse is a crime and should be stopped. She further encouraged the students to indulge in writing and also enlightened them about different forms and ways of writing.

The event concluded with a book signing and personal interaction with the author.
