It is surely a testament of God’s faithfulness to the Nagas that the pioneer leaders of the Naga National Movement formed the Naga National Council (NNC) to represent the national aspirations of the Nagas. The early NNC leaders had the foresight and wisdom to declare the Nagas as an independent nation to the United Nations Organisation (UNO) and many other nations on 14 August 1947, before the British formally withdrew from her South Asian empire. This crucial historical fact is well known, even to India.
Nagas have endured untold sufferings and countless deaths from the atrocities of the Indian Armed Forces. And still, the Nagas are committed in principle to follow the policy of non-violence and non-cooperation to protect her national rights.
NNC belongs to all Nagas and all Nagas are members of NNC. From the youngest child born yesterday to the oldest surviving, all Nagas are equal in NNC. To all Nagas who love and care for the nation, from the illiterate to the educated, and the intellectuals, let us nurture and strengthen our national institution, that is NNC. Kuknalim.
