A statement from the MIP-NSCN/GPRN in the
aftermath of the December 21 incident in Zunheboto
At the outset, NSCN wish to clear once and for all for the second time through the media that, the sexual assault upon women in any form is condemned in a strongest term and stringent punishment to deter future re-occurrence has been taken. The physical attack and insult heaped upon the Christian missionaries is totally uncalled for.
We take it as an attack to our Church and faith which is unimaginable when we have dedicated our nation to Christ. We therefore with deep regret and shame appeal the innocent victims in particular and Naga public in general to forgive the unauthorised actions of our three cadres whom we have given a befitting punishment. Such inhuman mal-treatment upon our own women and God servant cannot be condoned in any manner today and tomorrow. We will not hesitate to take stringent actions against such culprits.
The aftermath to this incident is again very unfortunate and could have been avoided. It is really regrettable that Sumi mob has overtaken the Sumi frontal organisation which has truly served the interest of the adversaries. It is crystal clear that the confrontation is not between NSCN and Sumi community. The fact as we have all gathered and seen at the confrontation place speaks volume of the involvements of factions who does not hold any future for the Naga people. From where will the civilians avail Rocket Launcher, Ak, LMG and SLR? It clearly shows that our Sumi youth are instigated and fired up to form a mob by those who are against the present peace process between NSCN and Government of India. Even if they deny what we clearly knows, heaven and earth are the witnesses and time will come where the good and the evil will be unfolded. This incident will go down in the Naga history as a black chapter.
Sumi people are the pioneers of Naga political movements and they have led the Nagas in different capacity and in much crucial time the Sumi leaders had taken the right decision for the Nagas. But today, the Sumi youth in total disregard and disrespect to the excellent legacy of their elders have taken a negative U-turn, detrimental to the Naga people and Sumi name which has surprised us in regret. We pray and hopes that better sense prevail upon them.
Violence never solved any problem but create more problems. NSCN wish to settle any misunderstanding if any with the Naga public peacefully through dialogue and not with emotions. As much as we wish to avoid confrontation with our own people yet if we are forced to solve problem through pressure tactics at the behest of the adversaries, we will not succumb to such advances but compelled to respond in kind. Let us all try to become “peace maker” in this trying time and not blood mongers.
