Mokokchung, June 16 (EMN): A 53-year old man and his friends had a narrow escape after stumbling upon a female leopard inside a tea estate in Akumen village, near the Nagaland-Assam border on Saturday.
It was reported that the villagers killed the leopard after the incident.
When contacted Akumen's GB, A Kalam, informed that the Lleopard had attacked six villagers when they were on their way for work in a tea estate just around the village at around 8 am. He said that the man, Tongpanglemba, was severally injured by the leopard while another Temjenyanger, aged 36, also suffered some injuries.
Kalam informed that the villagers were alerted about the leopard prowling in the village’s vicinity. All the men from the village were mobilised to ‘surround’ the wildcat, it seems.
The GB said that the leopard was already injured in one of her legs when the villagers hunted down the animal at around 11 am.
Tongpanglemba was said to have received deep scratches to the head and body. He has been shifted to a hospital in Jorhat in Assam for medical treatment, it was informed.
The extra additional commissioner of Longchem has been informed about the incident, the source said. The carcass of the leopard has been buried in the village, Kalam added.
