Dimapur, Feb. 27 (EMN): The ongoing Indo-Naga peace process dominated the consultative meeting of the Joint Legislators' Forum (JLF) on Naga political issue and the NSCN/GPRN held at the Rhododendron Hall in Chumoukedima, Dimapur on February 27.
The consultative meeting was chaired by Zhaleo Rio, speaker-in-charge and chairman, JLF on Naga political issue.
‘The JLF assured that all 60 members of the legislative assembly are united under one banner, setting aside their political ideologies and party affiliations for the Naga political issue in the greater interest of the people and to work towards lasting peace,’ an update from JLF stated.
The JLF further assured that it would play a “proactive role” and not only as facilitator. It appealed the Naga national workers to guide them in such a manner that they can positively contribute towards success of the negotiations.
The house came to the conclusion that the “political talks” should to be “expedited in order to take the negotiations to its logical conclusion and find solution that is honourable and acceptable to the people and one that upholds the political and democratic rights of the Naga people.” It also assured that “it would not come in the way of any alternative arrangement that may come about due to the political solution” and that it would rather “extend all cooperation to ensure that a congenial atmosphere would be created for successful implementation of the peace accord.”
The house “appealed to the government of India to understand and appreciate the Naga people who have made significant sacrifices to ensure that the ceasefire and peace talks are not affected” and solve the much-delayed Naga political issue. It also made a clarion call to all the sections of the Naga people for unity and understanding to strengthen the peace process.
The members of the JLF also expressed their appreciation to the NSCN/ GPRN and the national workers for their “contributions and sacrifices in upholding the Naga political issue and for bringing the movement thus far.”
