Kohima, March 10 (EMN): The National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) unit of 9th Kohima town assembly constituency held a thanksgiving service and picnic for Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, who won in the recent 13th state assembly elections. The event was conducted at D-Khel ground in Kohima on March 10.
Addressing the gathering, Kire thanked God for his kindness and to all the supporters for his victory. Referring to distribution of portfolio, Kire urged everyone to ‘understand the problem and pressure’ that the chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, is going through.
Saying that Rio has genuine concern and to work for the welfare of the Naga people, Kire asserted: ‘We want a stable government so we will sacrifice.’
Also expressing hope that things would work out once a stable government is put in place, Kire urged the members not to fight about portfolios but to work together in unity.
During the event, he gave away awards to three colonies namely D Block (lower), Potter Lane (lower), and Jail Colony for registering the highest percentage of votes.
Also speaking during the occasion, Bharatiya Janata Party minister Pangnyu Phom exuded confidence that a solution to the protracted Naga political issue would be found. Likewise, he expressed confidence that it would usher in ‘many other developments’ through the NDPP-BJP alliance led by Neiphiu Rio.
Stating that the citizens of Kohima should be the guardians and ‘mirror’ for the Naga people, Phom called Rio a dynamic leader and that the people need to work together by extending their cooperation and guidance ‘to safeguard the welfare of the people.’ He appealed to all elected members not to be discouraged ‘as there is a berth for everyone in the ministry and to run a strong government together by helping each other.’
