Dimapur, May 22 (EMN): Advisor of animal husbandry and veterinary services and women resource development, R Khing, has advocated bringing about economic change through promotion of pig farming in the state.
Speaking at the valedictory function of a one-week training on smell-less piggery farming technology, which was conducted by the department of animal husbandry and veterinary services at Lerie, Kohima, on May 22, R Khing has called upon the department to take the lead in bringing about economy changes by promoting pig farming in the state.
With the knowledge acquired in both theory and practical during the seven-day training, R Khing has urged upon the trainees to spread the message to every household in the villages to adopt hygienic and productive way of rearing pigs. He informed that the annual cost for import of pigs from outside the state has now been reduced to INR 124 crore from INR 214 crore.
According to him the objective of conducting the training was to equip farmers with the latest technology advancement in order to achieve self-sufficiency in meat production.
Also speaking on the occasion Dr. Aomangyang Walling, additional director and HoD, reminded the trainees to spread the message of smell-less piggery farming to other farmers. He has requested the women resource development department to come together and work in promoting the pig farming as women folk have vital roles to contribute in this aspect.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. L Temsu Ao, joint director, while short speeches were delivered by Hitoshi Yokota, agriculture consultant from Japan as well as trainees from the department of AH&V services, and representatives from women resource development and Nagaland pig farmers’ association.
