Dimapur, March 12 (EMN): As part of the legal literacy and awareness campaign, legal workshop was conducted for Elumyo village under Wokha district, on March 11 at Village Council Hall.
David Ezung highlighted the purpose of the workshop and briefed the activities, functioning of legal services institution in the State and flagship programmes of Legal Services Authority.
Renbemo Tungoe, assistant public prosecutor and ex-officio member of WDLSA spoke on topic ‘The Nagaland Village Council and Area Act, 1978’. Tungoe elaborated the salient features framed under the Act and gave simplistic and substantive implications on powers vested on the village council body and functioning of the subordinate and district customary courts.
Speaking on the basic provisions of law on domestic violence, Grace Ezung, illustrated the features and provisions on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005.
Resource person, Renpon, Panel Lawyer WDLSA, spoke on Consumer Protection Act, 1986, an Act of the Parliament of India. He also mentioned various laws and rights which have been enforced to protect the consumer rights by the Government.
Meribemo, Panel Lawyer of WDLSA, apprised the villagers on Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (Right to Education Act). He informed the participants on the important provisions and rights secured by the Act so that the village council bodies and leaders of social organisation can play active role to avail the benefits of Right to Education.
