Dimapur, Sep 13 (EMN): Embarking on a mission to equip the public on their legal rights, Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDSA), Tuensang District Legal Services Authority (TDLSA), and Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) have organised programmes in their respective districts on September 12. In Longleng, LDLSA organised a brief programme to hand over compensation to two victims under the Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme 2012 at district court, Longleng. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, Temsuwati, handed over an amount of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 2 lakh each to two victims. LDLSA panel lawyer, A Mane Phom, highlighted about the cases, while Assistant Public Prosecutor, Abraham, spoke on proper utilisation of the funds. Tucano Vamuzo, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary LDLSA, chaired the programme. In Tuensang, TDLSA organised its half yearly meeting cum workshop on basic laws of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) in the conference hall of Hotel Navin, Tuensang. N Kano, judicial magistrate first class and secretary TDLSA, speaking on the PLV schemes, encouraged the latter to continuously work for the down trodden people. Emphasising on the implementation of NALSA schemes, Cheliam Khiamniungan, NSLSA master trainer, said various departments, authorities and NGOs should be identified to let the benefits reach the actual beneficiaries. She reminded that PLVs should be pro-active to collect information, plan and implement the scheme and spread awareness to the public, target group or victims of any kind. The master trainer also urged the PLVs to assist and link the beneficiaries/victims in effective prevention, rehabilitation and elimination wherever necessary. Yimtsusangla Chang, TDLSA retainer lawyer, spoke on the introduction on basic laws, where she highlighted about the basic laws from the booklets and pamphlets which are to be used during “door to door” campaign to be conducted on September 23. She also briefed the PLVs how to approach people during the campaign. PLVs Pukho Meyo and Yemlongchaba shared their experience and success stories. They encouraged the fellow PLVs to be more committed in rendering their services to the poor and needy. Altogether 24 PLVs from 14 LACs attended the meeting cum workshop. In Kohima, KDLSA organised a legal awareness programme on NALSA scheme and consumer rights at Nerhema village council hall. Delivering the keynote address, Victo Sema, chief judicial magistrate and secretary KDLSA, highlighted on the purpose of the legal awareness programme and the aims and objectives of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA). KDLSA panel lawyer, Nancy Lotha, spoke on Drug Abuse and Eradication of Drug Menace Scheme 2015 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985. She also informed on the objectives of the scheme and awareness programmes rendered to different sections of the society. Speaking on the effective implementation of Poverty Alleviation Schemes 2015, Hisinlo Himb, KDLSA panel lawyer, explained the meaning of poverty, alleviation and different types of poverty such as absolute, relative and situational poverty. He also explained on the different schemes extend by the government such as Jawarhar Gram Samridhi Yougna (JGSY), National Old Age Pension Schemes, National Maternity Benefit Schemes, Annapurna Scheme, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural employment Guarantee (MGNRG) scheme. Speaking on Child Friendly Legal Service to Children and their Protection Scheme 2015, Apila Sangtam, KDLSA panel lawyer, explained on the rights of a child to survival, development, protection. She also explained other child related acts such as Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. Wapangienla Kichu, KDLSA panel lawyer, spoke on Legal Services to the Mentally III and Mentally Disabled Persons Scheme 2015, while Thejapfutuo, KDLSA panel lawyer, spoke on Consumer Protection Act, 1986. Rukravolie Rulho, secretary of Nerhema Village Development Board, delivered the welcome address. KeduviZhotso, panel lawyer, chaired the programme.
