Dimapur, Oct. 21 (EMN): Mokokchung Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) organised legal awareness seminar at Kangtsung Senso Telongjem, Tuli Community hall on Oct. 21.
Students from Government Higher Secondary School, ward chairmen, Watsu and students union attended the seminar.
Speaking on role of Para Legal Volunteers, Legal Services to Victim of Disaster Scheme, 2016, Legal Services to Senior Citizens Scheme, 2016, JMFC and Secretary MDLSA Phuleto Yeptho, appraised that the Para-Legal Volunteers Scheme aimed at imparting legal training to volunteers selected from different walks of life to ensure legal aid reaches all sections of people.
He also informed that PLVs would be trained with basic knowledge of law and available welfare measures and legislations so that they would be able to counsel and amicably settle simple disputes at the source itself.
Yeptho highlighted the objective of the Legal Services to Victim of Disaster Scheme, 2016 is to provide legal services to the victims of disaster both manmade and natural by building a platform for early recovery through coordination with the Government departments and NGOs.
He further highlighted that the Legal Services to Senior Citizens Scheme, 2016 which aimed to ensure that the senior citizens live a life of dignity and enjoy all the benefits and facilities.
Panel Lawyer Sentinaro Longchar spoke on Right to Informtaion Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Child Friendly Legal Services to Children and their Protection Scheme 2015, while Retainer Lawyer I ImkongJamir, shared on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 and basic rights.
After the programme the PLVs of Tuli visited the Grace Rehabilitation Centre at Tuli.
