Dimapur, May 28 (EMN): The Phek District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) conducted a combined legal awareness seminar programme for Ao, Sema, Lotha ,Sangtam, Rengma, Kuki and Yimchunger Baptist churches at Ao Baptist Church , Phek on May 28.

Panel Lawyer PDLSA, Vethothi Vero, spoke on free legal aid service, Domestic Violence Act and Nagaland State Victim Compensation Scheme 2012. He explained the procedures for grant of compensation and limit of compensation. He stated the in cases of loss of life, on may get compensation upto Rs. 2 Lakh, loss of any limb of part of body resulting 80% or above handicap-Rs. 1 Lakh, loss of any limb of part of body resulting 40% and 80% handicap- Rs. 75,000, rape of minor-Rs. 1 Lakh, rape-Rs. 50,000, rehabilitation-Rs. 50,000, loss of any limb or part of body resulting below 40% handicap- Rs. 75,000, loss of injury casuing severe mental agony to women and child victims in case like human trafficking-Rs. 1

Lakh and simple loss or injury to child victim- Rs. 20,000.
Samual Ritse, APP shared on Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) while Mamang Singson, Retainer Lawyer, PDLSA highlighted various social welfare schemes and programmes.
Earlier, PDLSA also conducted essay competition on the topic “Fundamental rights and duties” for Sunday school students of Phek Town Baptist Church. Nino Iralu briefed the students about the fundamental rights and duties and also supplemented about the ways and means to avail free legal aid services from the PDLSA.
Poster-making contest at KODO
The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) organised legal awareness cum poster making competition on ‘child rights’ at GMS, Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home on May 27.
Speaking on Cyber Crime, Wapanginla Kichu, Panel Lawyer KDLSA pointed out the advantage and disadvantage of Internet, Information Technology act, 2008 and punishments under the Indian Penal Code.
She also informed that some common cyber-crime scenarios which can attract prosecution as per the penalties and offences are harassment via fake public profile on social networking site, online hate community, email account hacking, credit card fraud etc.
On Child Rights, Hisinlo Himb, Panel Lawyer KDLSA, stressed on the fundamental rights of a child, Right to Education Act, Juvenile Justice Act 2000, Prohibition of Child Marriage act, 2006 and Child Labour .
Demonstration of poster making was addressed by Zheviholi Swu, Panel Lawyer KDLSA wherein, 20 students from class 5-8 participated in poster making competition.
The first prize was bagged by Kevichulie, second prize by Asangthang from Cradle Ridge, third prize by Jenithung, while consolation prizes were bagged by Yasongwo and Philip. Prizes for winners were distributed by Alezo Kire, Government Pleader, District court, Kohima. He encouraged the students to study hard and if interested to take up law so that they can help the poor litigants and deliver justice.
Alezo Kire and Zheviholi Swu provided sweets and bandages respectively for the children.
With an aim to educate and create legal awareness on child’s rights, Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) conducted a legal awareness cum quiz competition on ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, 2012’ with Sunday School children at Sangtam Baptist Church, KIphire, on May 28.
Speaking on POCSO Act, Hotingkiu Sangtam, KDLSA panel lawyer, apprised on the need to educate children on the various Acts enacted for the protection of children in order to build a better future for children. He informed that POCSO Act was passed to safeguard the children below the age of 18 years from sexual offence. He further urged the participants to be aware of their rights so as to protect themselves from any kind of sexual offence. He also highlighted on the importance of District Legal Services Authority and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
A quiz competition was held with the participation of 100 children. The first position was bagged by Alina, while the second and third positions were won by Atsala and Tesila respectively.
Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) conducted painting competition at Orphanage Home in Wangla village on May 25. The Orphanage Home is located 55 kilometres away from Mon headquarter.
The competition was conducted for students of classes IV and V. The first prize won by Ngamzie, while the second prize was won by Jungan and third prize by Jushon respectively.
On the occasion, all the children in the Orphanage Home were also given clipboards. The MDLSA team included N Mannon Konyak, Dominic Kaiba, M Moba Konyak, Tingkai, Penngam, Ms Phamsa and Nyemin.
