Dimapur, March 22 (EMN): Nagaland state legal services authority (NSLSA), in collaboration with office of the commissioner, organised one-day training for dobashis (DBs) of Nagaland on constitution and customary law, local laws, and role of dobashis was held on March 23 at Kohima DPDB conference hall.
Speaking at the inaugural session, state commissioner, M Patton, emphasised on the need to organise training at the tribal level to strengthen the customary laws.
Justice N Kotiswar Singh, judge of Gauhati High Court and NSLSA executive chairman, spoke on the constitution and customary law, local laws and role of dobashis. Stating that customary law plays an important role in Nagaland, he said it should function in relevance with the present situation.
He advised the DBs to work towards dispensing justice and credibility.
Sanjeev Sachdeva, judge of Delhi High Court and member advisory council, Indian Institute of Legal and Professional Development (IILPD), also spoke at the inaugural session.
CT Jamir, senior advocate of Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench, spoke on the role of DBs and rules for administration of justice and police in Nagaland (as Amended upto date), while Kakheto Sema, senior additional advocate general, apprised the participants on Nagaland village and area council act 1978 and duties and function of the village council members and dobashis.
NSLSA project coordinator, Limasenla Longkumer, spoke on legal services authority act.
The inaugural session was chaired by NSLSA member secretary, Mezivolu T Therieh.
