Dimapur, Nov. 15 (EMN): Delivering inaugural address at three- day refresher training for panel lawyers on Wednesday, Judge Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench LS Jamir pointed out that Legal service authority was constituted for providing free and competent legal service to the weaker sections of the society. He therefore, urged the panel lawyers to focus on rendering service to the ordinary citizen.
The training is being oragnised by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) at Directorate of State Institute of Rural Development, Kohima.
Jamir also asked lawyers to dispose legal aid cases taken up by them at the earliest and to file quarterly report to the state legal services authority with services rendered.
He said that panel lawyers should be a guide to one or more para legal volunteers as that will go a long way in reaching to the grassroots. The executive chairman further urged them to inculcate the methods learnt from the training and implement in manner suitable to villages and town.
Special Judge TDP Vigilance Commission and Member Secretary NSLSA Nino Iralu in her keynote address said lawyers are important pillars of legal services authority, PLVs and district magistrates and judges. She therefore said that there is the need to come and learn from resource persons to render quality services.
State program officer Social Welfare department, Michael Zarin, spoke on Welfare Schemes with special emphasis on PWDs.
Assistant coordinator State Resource Centre for Women, Juliana Medom, spoke on plans, policies and programmes under SRCW while deputy director, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare Dr. Khriezotuo Paphino, spoke on national health programme/ services, and project officer department of Labour, T Chubayanger spoke on Construction Workers’ Welfare Schemes with special emphasis on the Society Act.
Programme manager, State Child Protection Society Raitale Zeliang, spoke on Integrated Child Protection scheme mechanism and its functions and legal aid counsel-cum-trainer NSLSA, Limasenla Longkumer, spoke on Right to Education.
