Dimapur, April 29 (EMN): Students at Meluri in Phek district are being given lessons in the hard dynamics of modern industries. During a recent career guidance programme they were given this industrial truism: The world is a world of skill-based opportunities. You need to develop not just a skill, but multiple skills, to fit into various careers.
The guidance and counselling cell of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) organised a daylong career conference on April 28 at Meluri village’s council hall, in Phek. A press release from the centre informed about the event on Sunday.
The primary objective of the conference was to create an opportunity for students to interact with professionals, updates informed. It was aimed at helping students in making a judicious decision about their future careers, it stated.
The resource persons for the event were Dr. Zavise Rume, associate professor of the SCERT; Benjamin Longkap, sub divisional officer (Civil) of Meluri; Jackson Ngouri, a junior engineer of the Public Works department; and Jievitho Nyuthe, state coordinator for a group called, North East Career Club.
The resource persons gave to the gathering guidance about the academics besides offering ‘skill-based career opportunities in the modern world of work’; civil services examinations preparations; identifying one’s abilities, interest, and aptitude, the updates informed.
During the interactive session, the students at the event raised several questions and sought clarification for doubts, it was informed.
The resource persons ‘explored every possibility in finding out emerging careers that are highly job-oriented and employable in the present world,’ according to the updates. The participants were then taught about how to develop multiple skills in order to help them fit into various skill-based career opportunities.
Further, the participants were informed about various methods of study that they can adopt in school or college. They were also taught about the need to learn mathematics and science from which they can opt for technical courses of study such as medicine, paramedical, and engineering.
Around 500 secondary and higher secondary students from various schools participated at the seminar.
The event was first of its kind in Meluri, the updates said.
The participants have requested the SCERT to organise more of such programmes in future to help students in their academics and in helping them take career decisions, the updates stated.
