Leaders, organisations condole demise of former MLA Kielu Ndang

Leaders and organisations in Nagaland condoled the death of former MLA Kielu Ndang from Peren Assembly Constituency.

DIMAPUR — Leaders and organisations have conveyed condolences to the family of Kielu Ndang, former member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from Peren, who passed away on Thursday.


Sharingain Longkumer, speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Ndang, and on behalf of the members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly and on his own behalf, conveyed heartfelt condolences and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.


In a condolence note, the speaker mentioned that born in 1943 to Nambang of the Zeliang tribe, Ndang began his career as a teacher before assuming leadership roles in civic and social activities. He served as secretary of the Peren Town Committee and executive member of the NNO in the Zeliangkuki area.

He was elected to the 3rd Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1971 in the by-election from Peren Assembly Constituency and was re-elected in the 1974 general election representing the United Democratic Front (UDF). Longkumer described him as a hard-working and devoted man who worked sincerely for the welfare and upliftment of his constituency and for the people of Nagaland.


Minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye also conveyed his condolences, describing Ndang as a veteran ex-parliamentarian and a tall leader. He noted that his immense contributions to the Zeliangs in particular and Nagas in general will be cherished for generations to come.


Kenye, on behalf of his family, extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for God to grant solace and comfort in the hour of grief.


The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) also mourned the demise of Ndang, describing him as a senior member of the association. Stating that he was known for his dedication and hard work in serving the people of not just Peren Assembly Constituency and the Zeliang people, but all Nagas in general, the Ex-PAN noted that his demise is a great loss to the people of Nagaland and especially to the people of Peren.


Despite his inability to return to the Assembly, Ex-PAN stated that he continued to serve the people until his last days and was loved by all who knew him. The association said his absence will be deeply felt and conveyed condolences to his wife, Lungchule, and the family, praying for God’s comfort and strength during the time of loss.


The Naga People’s Front (NPF) also issued a condolence message. It stated that he was a leader who worked to unite people across tribal lines and strengthened the democratic foundations of Nagaland during its formative years.


The NPF conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for God’s comfort and strength in this time of grief, adding that his soul may rest in eternal peace.
