Dimapur, June 28: The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) will be undertaking a sit-in protest on July 7 over grievances that the students say point to apathy to legal studies. The protest is scheduled from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. The NLSF issued a press release on Tuesday informing about the agitation, said to be the first phase of the group.
The organization said that the protest will demand setting up government law colleges besides giving importance to law subjects at par with other professional studies.
“The objective of the protest is to pressure the government to set up government law colleges and to give equal importance to the subject of law in bar with other professional studies in the State. The NLSF has time and again requested the government to take note of the inequity and to come up with the policy however it is sad thing to note that despite repeated appeal since past decades and the passage of more than 50 years since attaining statehood, Nagaland is yet to have government law college,” the organization stated in the note.
“(The) Absence of which make the prestige and reputation of our state unpopular and also caused inconvenience to the law students at the same time making it hard for the poorer section of our state to take up Law studies as their subject matter (sic),” the organization stated.
The law students have requested all in concern to take cognizance and “extend support towards the Federation in achieving its objectives in the larger interest of the law students and the state as a whole.”
